RLR Management Consulting, Inc. (RLR), the industry’s longest tenured privately-owned consulting firm serving community and regional banks celebrates Valerie McCune who recently completed her 16th year with RLR.

Prior to joining RLR, Val was a banker for over 20 years focused on building expertise in Deposit Operations, Compliance, and Cash Management. She also spent several years at Wells Fargo managing the customer service unit that supported Correspondent Banking servicing over 5,000 financial institutions across the United States.

As a Senior Associate Consultant at RLR , she has served as Project Manager for numerous merger/acquisition projects, compliance and control reviews, bank wide system conversions and most recently developed a Cannabis Banking compliance program inclusive of Risk Assessment, Policy, Procedure, Enhanced Due Diligence and more.

When asked what helped her develop her knowledge and skills early on, she noted that when starting out in a smaller institution, she had to “wear a lot of hats” and do many things manually, but, learned a lot. She found that education served her well later in in her career; “Because although many things are more automated in a larger institution, once you’ve done it manually, you understand the processes that have been automated and are better able to troubleshoot when things go awry. When servicing institutions from the Correspondent Bank perspective, I knew quite a bit about how my customers operated their business and was better able to serve them.”

This has translated into Valerie being an invaluable consultant able to take on most any type of engagement for our clients; From operational audits to compliance engagements, operational efficiencies to system evaluations, and management of conversions she has exceled in every endeavor.

When asked what she loved most about her job, she noted the variety in the projects RLR provides, which corresponds to who Val is and what she brings to the firm. “I also appreciate the independent nature of consulting and the ability we have to pursue topics of interest and specialize in areas we really enjoy”. Val continues to grow as she most recently, had the opportunity to do some extensive research into Cannabis Banking and leads RLR in this area.

Valerie holds certifications from the American Institute of Banking, Bankers Compliance Group, and the National Clearing House Association for various aspects of Banking Operations, Banking Law and Bank Management Training. Val resides in Seattle, Washington with her husband and three children.
