Verna Malone


A logo of mid-south user groupVerna Malone has over 30 years of experience in the financial industry both as a banker and a consultant. She has served on the Boards of Directors of two community banks, was the Chief Credit Officer of a private bank, and has led numerous consulting engagements. In her role as Chief Credit Officer she was responsible for oversight of all aspects of the loan portfolio including development of portfolio management reports (concentration, CRE, OREO, etc.), development of the ALLL methodology, and maintenance of the Loan Policy. An important role was coaching lenders regarding structure, pricing, collateral, term, etc. to present credits to the loan committee. She has worked with institutions of all sizes from small community banks to large national banks.

 


Her banking experience includes:

  • Chief Credit Officer, executive management team and Board of Directors
  • Oversight of all aspects of the loan portfolio, development of portfolio management reports (concentration, CRE, OREO, charge-offs, etc.), and presentation to the Board of Directors
  • Development of Allowance for Loan and Lease Loss methodology and recommendation of appropriate level to maintain compliance
  • Management of credit approval process and review of loan documentation
  • Critique of loan presentations and coaching of lenders (structure, pricing, collateral, term, etc.) prior to submission to credit committee
  • Maintenance of loan policy manual (wrote policies as required)
  • Oversight of loan administration function
  • Collaboration on work-out strategies and OREO management with lenders
  • Critique/review of “Criticized Asset Reports” prior to monthly reporting
  • Oversight of appraisal and credit compliance functions
  • Interface with regulators on all loan/credit related topics, preparation of management’s regulatory exam response, and production of required documents/procedures to successfully comply with regulatory orders

VernaMalone holds a Bachelor of Science in Finance/Banking from the University of Illinois and an MBA in Finance and Accounting from the University of Chicago’s Booth School of Business. She also holds Series 7, 24 and 63 securities licenses.
